SUMMARY:
The position of School Bus Aide was established for the purpose of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and /or special activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assists bus driver for the purpose of handling emergency situations until the driver can take over.
• Assists substitute bus driver with clear directions to all student stops (e.g. roads, addresses, times, etc.) when a regular driver is absent.
• Assists special education students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal and emergency situations.
• Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
• Prepares reports (seating chart of assigned riders, incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and /or complying with established guidelines.
• Reports observations (discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
• Secures students and/or their equipment (restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, ramps, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by wearing gloves when dealing with body fluids, staying seated while bus in motion, sanitizing, etc. for the purpose of reducing airborne and contaminates that cause sickness.
• Attend all safety meetings and perform required safety trainings.
• Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
• Perform split shifts and varied hours depending on route.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Job related experience desired.
• Sufficient command of the English language to communicate with students, parents, district staff members and community.
• Possess a CPR/First aid Certificate required or able to obtain.
• Proven ability to work independently and plan and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to be flexible and agile with schedules and routes.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations.
• Attendance and punctuality are important in this position.

180-259 Day Employees- Paid leave benefits to include 10 sick days, 10 paid holidays, and 3 personal leave days.
260 Day Employee-Paid leave benefits to include a minimum of 12 sick days, 13 paid holiday and 3 personal leave days and a minimum of 10 days’ vacation after the first year.
